"Lost Identity" written in memory & remembrance of my sweet sister, Krista on the 20th Aug, 2012
20th August 2012
Written by: Donna Africa
Dedicated to: To a failed system and those who care! I hope to finally remove the shame and stigma associated with suicide by sharing my beloved Sister Krista's suicide and despair.
"Lost Identity"
written & copyright by Donna Africa
In Loving Memory & Remembrance
of my dearly beloved, late sweet soul sister,
Krista MaryThompson
24/12/1961 - 28/6/2011
Where do I begin
to tell of the hurt
and the endless pain
that my dear sister Kris
endured and suffered
to the very end
when she went astray
and lost her way
The Doctor did not listen
to me or take heed
to my desperate pleas
but went ahead nonetheless
with their ECT barbaric deed
and sent electrical currents
through my dear sister's
troubled & tortured head!
She lost her mind
and her identity
unable to decide
a ghost of her former self
a carcass was all that remained
and left behind of my
beloved sweet sister Kris
She had ached & longed to be
what she was before
but with no identity
it was easy to pull that chord
tightly around her neck
which led Krista to her
demise and tragic end
as she lay limp, lifeless & dead
At the Coroner's Inquest
the Doctor & care worker's
called to the stand, to relay,
the facts in a cold
and matter of fact way
which led to my sister's suicide
on that fatal dire day!
The disturbing
and alarming truth
that unravelled before me
left me reeling
devastated, angered
unbelieving & unforgiving
as I could not believe
what I was hearing!
I learnt that Krista
had been left alone
and neglected
on that fateful day
by those we trusted
entrusted and
believed did care
for my sister's welfare!
Vital actions overlooked
no visit or phone calls made
which had been put in place
by those in charge & pre-arranged
not carried out or dispatched
that could possibly have saved
my sister's life on that tragicTuesday!
At the end of the inquest
the Coroner called for
lessons to be learned
of which could deter
and possibly prevent
this recurring
such a sad tragic event!
The Doctor & care worker
came to shake my hand
I looked down at the ground
and let out a primeval sound
as I felt deflated
unsatified and let down
betrayed by the system
that had dismally failed
both my sweet sister
Kris, my family and me!
Krista rests peacefully in the arms of the angels and with our late Mum, Joan Crawford.
I hope that by sharing my sister, Krista's pain and suicide we might prevent this happening again and save a troubled soul!
NB My elder sister, Lyn and I fought and advocated for alternative therapies for our sweet sister Kris but unfortunately, the NHS only funds ECT treatment & no other forms of alternative treatments is funded or supported - if the patient is unwilling or unable to take medication in tablet form! Finally, I hope to remove the shame and stigma associated with suicide!

"The Essence of Michael Jackson" Poem as seen through my eyes...
25th July 2010
Written by: Donna Africa
Dedicated to: My Tribute & Published Poem to The Late Great Michael Jackson

Michael, “The Prince of Pop”
How you agonised,
sacrificed and suffered so
for sharing and giving the world
your love
your creativity
your ingenuity
your music
dance and incredible songs
that will inspire and live forever on.
Michael, in my eyes
an innocent lost boy child
trapped within whilst
outside a vulnerable
crumbling visage of a
trusting man
A puppet dancing for the media strings
Filled with so much pain and hurt
Struggling and longing just to be loved
understood and finally to be set free.
Michael, there could never be another
as superbly talented & as creative as you
No other could have broken down barriers
connected
touched
and inspired
as you
This world was never meant
for one as beautiful as you
Michael, you will never be forgotten
Your music and legacy
you gave us
will remain and carry on
to illuminate

and appreciate
The Great Bright Super Star
that you were and will be forever more.
Michael, we will always love you!

"Thank you, My Friends" Written by Donna Africa

Somedays, especially Mondays
I wake up and think of
all that I am not
and what I still haven't got
and think maybe I am not
all I ever wanted to be
and this so frustrates me!
So I take a moment to reflect
and remember that
you are my true friend
that I should never forget
Who lifts me up
to incredible heights
enabling me to see
more than my own needs
and to forget all about me
You show me that we
are all connected as one
You and me
not at all alone
I now understand and see
That we are all beautiful
unique beings
swimming franctically
You and me
in this turbulent deep blue sea
fighting relentlessly
to discover and harness
our own individuality
and energy
I thank you my dear friend
ever so sincerely
for being there for me
and making me realise
in order to be be free
and to be me
just to be oneself
naturally
I thank you
my true friend
unconditionally.
