The Winter of My Discontent

This is the winter of my discontent
As I stare up into the watery coloured skies
covered with dense grey clouds passing me by
the light so faint, dulled and indistinct
I let out an exasperated sigh!

This is the winter of my discontent
Knowing all what I left behind
Big blue open & vibrant african skies
with the light so bright & illuminating
to follow and realise my frustrated dreams.

This is the winter of my discontent
Recession and depression abound
swine flu and minimum wages rule
No job opportunities for the young or old
are all getting me down!

This is the winter of my discontent
Soaring energy prices
unemployment hits an all time high
The Artist has been firmly crippled
and dies as he is unable to survive
in these disenchantment of times!

This is the winter of my discontent
Local Pubs close down aplenty
Nanny State dictates to the people
No more at liberty to do what they please
Health and Safety go to the extremes
it is a wonder how we all survived!

This is the winter of my discontent
Taxman takes from the poor and disadvantaged
Giant Corporations crush and kill the
small business man on the high street
and he is left high and dry

This is the winter of my discontent
Homeless wander the street
Youth drink to excess
Christmas Postal strikes
Floods galore in Cumbria
Celebrities rule & reign the TV

This is the winter of my discontent
Models are famous for being thin & fake
What message are they sending to the youth?
That to be beautiful you must be thin & fake & not yourself?
This I totally disagree with and abhor!
What has happened to natural beauty, talent and creativity?

This is the winter of my discontent
Everyone desiring instant fame & fortune
without having to work hard and earn it
Children are directionless and clueless
Shark Agencies selling false dreams to the naive,
young & ignorant to fill their greed

This is the winter of my discontent
While the rest of us tighten our belts
this oncoming Christmas Season
and prepare to suffer
the bank managers wallow in their
bonuses and live large, high
and prosper

This is the winter of my discontent
The Media & Advertisers for preying
on young girls and woman insecurities
I beg to hear no more about cosmetic surgery
or fake and false beauty
As beauty is more than skin deep!

This is the winter of my discontent
Finally knowing that some of you out there
like myself will not be sharing Christmas
this year with our loved ones as they
have sadly passed on but are not forgotten
as they forever remain in our hearts and our minds.

My heart and love go out to you this Christmas!

This is indeed the Winter of my Discontent!
Bless you all this Christmas and May the New Year bring in Enchanted, Prosperous Times! With Luv, Light and Liberty Your Donna Africa xxxx PS I sound like a Right Old Grumpy Women! LOL! I am just Saying it like it truly is…………….

I am your dream
longing to be realised,
I am your passion
now materialised,
I am your last thought
late at night
and your first thought
come day light,
I am your song
that has yet to be sung,
I am your friend
that has done you no wrong!

The Black Widow

Dedicated to: I wrote this poem to get into character in a short B/W film that I played as the femme fatale, "The Black Widow"

Who is she?
This exquisite
creature of
such dark,
fiery, smouldering
and intense beauty
with eyes ablazed
and skin of silk
which men covet,
lust and desire
for this Bella Donna
who has bewitched
swayed and stripped
them of their powers

She is a Vamp
A temptress
A seducer of men
using their
own weakness
against them
to allure,
entrap and enrapture
her unsuspecting
prey into her web
of corruption
deceit and desire,
To get what she wants
by using her heinous
and evil powers

A Man eater is she
Owner of an icy
heartless
merciless,
ebony heart
Brutal, crippling
debilitating
and all consuming
as she devours
her lovers
As there can be
no survivors
You see
As she is
“The Black Widow.”
I wrote this poem "The Black Widow" basically to get into character as the ”Femme Fatale” Temptress that I act out in this atmospheric / noir / black & white / retro styled short film that I was featured in as the black widow.
